Does anyone know if this is a serious problem with my eyes?!

Question: I wear contacts and my eyes are pretty bad. My prescription is -4.00. About 6 months ago I started a job that requires long periods of time looking at the computer and dealing with paperwork. My eyes have gotten considerably worse to the point that looking at the computer is causing me serious eye strain and things that were clear six months ago are now very blurry.
Is it normal for your vision to change this much in 6 months due to looking at a computer or could this be something more serious?

This is classic eye fatigue. You should set a timer on your desktop that goes off every 45minutes and then walk away from your desk for 5 minutes or raise your eyes and focus on a picture, look out the window, anything just don't look at the computer for 5 minutes. Then return to work-you will notice your eyes feeling better pretty quickly. Also you may want to get some basic saline solution to keep your eyes moist and refresh your eyes as needed. Optometrists recommend a computer monitor be somewhere between 20 and 30 inches from your eyes. Adjust the font size, screen lighting and if needed use an overhead light to reduce strain. You may need to chat with the HR or safety person and see what recommendations they have (for safety they should have a checklist). If all else fails consider using glasses at work that use a monitor filter to reduce glare and strain. Good Luck!

i'd say its the computer

Too bad you didn't give your age. That could explain a lot of it.

If you are in your mid to late 30's , it could very well be early presbyopia starting. Requiring a weaker correction for all that close work.

Contacts and computers are seldom a good mix anyway, because too much time is spent staring, and not blinking enough to keep the lenses moist, causing them to blur a bit, and get uncomfortable.

You should get up and look out a window to refocus your eyes for distance.
