I had my last eye exam and contact fitting at a Wal-Mart Vision Center. I don't have vision insurance, and it only cost me $91. That included the exam/fitting, a trial pair of contacts, a starter kit with solution and contact case, and my prescription so I can order at any eye doctor's office or online (way cheaper online). If you have vision insurance, it should be even cheaper than that for you. The cost of your contacts will vary; it depends on the brand, the amount of time they're made to be worn for, etc. Contacts for people with astigmatism are more expensive than regular contacts.

It will take you some time to get used to putting them in and taking them out, but once you get used to doing it, it won't take you but a minute to put them in or remove them. It just takes practice, and the more you do it the better you will get. Your eye doctor will train you on insertion/removal of contacts, and how to clean and store them properly when you have your eye exam/fitting.

Contacts are super comfortable once you get used to wearing them. It can take up to 2 weeks to adjust to wearing contacts, so just be patient with yourself. It can be a little uncomfortable at first, but it will get better as you wear them. Once you are used to them, it's like wearing nothing at all.

Not too expensive, but it depends on the type of contacts you get. It takes like a week to be able to pop them in and out. andd You can't even feel them! at all..unless you put them in backwards.. have fun!

I got contacts about a year ago.
I use Acuvue Oasis, which is about $30 for 6 weeks.
But there's a lot of cheaper options.

They're not uncomfortable if you clean them well before putting them in, and you get pretty used to them in 1 or 2 months.
It is annoying the first few weeks, though, until you find a technique for cleaning and inserting them in quickly.
But over all, I think it's a lot better than wearing glasses.

If it is uncomfortable there is something wrong with it like a tear or it's in backwards, otherwise you won't even feel it. First you need an exam which is about 70 bucks if your mom doesn't have insurance, and contacts are about 20 dollars for a box. They really arn't a dent in any normal persons budget, your mom was using the new roof as an excuse. If you find out your to lazy or you just don't like them, you don't have to order any more after your first box, so it is worth trying them out.

It depends on the Doctor as to prices but i would just order the minimum you could just to make sure it is what you wanted. I see so many new contact lens wearers that expected to be able to pop them in and out and its not that easy so they spend all the money to get them and then quit after two weeks and never try again. It takes want and alot of practice to get good at it but believe me it gets easier the more you wear them. Make sure if you do get them that you let the optician or assistant sit down with you and show you how to put in and remove them! Good luck!
