Eye strain from computer...glasses?!

Question: my job requires me to be in front of a computer all day... I don't have bad eyes, but by the end of the day my eyes are usually strained and watery from staring at a computer screen for hours, which I'm sure is normal. My office is well lit, so I don't know what else could be a reason for my eyes hurting. ... will glasses help reduce the strain? and how, if I have great eye sight??

Its sad that our culture and technology has forced us to sit all day in front of the pc. The unfortunate thing is our bodies were not built for this activity. We are by nature hunter and gathers, not computer freaks! Looking around for a few minutes is not going to do you good. You need to get away from the computer at least once an hour and get away for a good 15-30 minutes for the eye muscles to relax and refocus themselves. Looking around for a few mintues in my mind aint going to do crap. Computer glasses although make your eyes worse, will definitely take some strain off your eyes. You'll feel better, but your vision will now be calibrated to the eye glasses. This is why people that wear glasses always need stronger prescription. Its not a root solution, its a crutch. Unfortunately, few of us have the option to get away for an hour and come back to work. Our work environment will not allow this, therefore, we are forced to use a crutch system. Only wear them when your eyes are getting really tired. Otherwise, stay away from them. They do help!

Try getting glasses specified for oyur occasion, ask about them at a store.

make sure that you are occasionally looking away from the computer screen during the day. Even for 30 seconds to 1 minute every hour or so will help. Also try changing the settings on your computer you can change the resolution so its not so small thus will reduce eye strain. right click on your desktop click on properties then click on the settings tab, you will see an option for screen resolution the lower the first number is the bigger the icons and words will be.

Good luck.

this is not an issue for glasses. For the use of glasses, the lens in your eyes must not bue functioning properly.

However, this is not the case in your situation.

What is going on...
Your eyes are not moveing. Since you are staring at a small area (Like the computer screen), the muscles around your eyes become sore and stiff. That is causing the straining.

The cure...
Stop what your doing for 5 minutes and look around the office. This will re-invigureate your eye muscles
