Im scared my double vision is getting worse!?!

Question: Im 19 I had strabismus surgery on both my eyes to correct extropica squint. I developed Diplopia, been stuck with binocular diplopia for 7 months in all directions especially to my right, I have started wearing prism glass. Apart from the blue and yellow lights and a little fuzzy sight when looking into the distance my glass work fine for reading and getting around safely.

But when I take my glass's off I notice that my diplopia is worse than it was when I before the glass's. Is it possible my vision could be being made worse from the glasses? and if so why?

All valid answers would be appreciated, I thank you in advance

Just like other surgery, there is some rehabilitation that is necessary to re-train the area that was operated. After corrective strabismus surgery, it is usually recommended that you undergo vision therapy (exercises for the eyes) to train the eyes to stay in alignment. Vision therapy in your case means that you need to teach your eye muscles to co-ordinate with one another so you don't see two images.

If you have not undergone vision therapy, you may want to start with a visit to an eye specialist who does vision therapy.

Regarding your prism glasses... the prisms help to bring the two images you see (diplopia) back into a single image without you having to "work" your eye muscles to bring your eyes back into alignment. When you take them off, you are back to seeing double.

If your diplopia started again suddenly or is rapidly worsening, I would probably go back to your eye doctor for a check up. If you are doing a lot of reading, computer work or long periods of work up close, you may just be tiring your eyes/ eye muscles. Vision therapy can help or new prism glasses or giving your eyes a break.

Ultimately, check with your eye doctor or vision therapist.
