What could cause my contacts to make my eyes itchy?!

Question: I just got contact lenses again after five years of not wearing them, and was just wondering if anyone had advice how to take care of them and my eyes. Right now I am trying out some Acuvues and they seem to be itchy I just put them in after cleaning them out do my eyes need to adjust more or is this normal. Does it mean dryness? My eyes also feel like they are straining a little to focus through them is this normal for the first week or so. Does it get better?

I just got contacts too, and sometimes mine make my eyes itchy. I asked my eye doctor and he said that there is probably some dirt on the lenses, or they have a tear in them. my advice, clean them off, get new lenses, or just take them out and let your eyes rest for a little while. This is a pretty common thing for the first week or two, but your eyes will eventually adjust. It doesn't always mean dryness, but you might want to ask your doctor. oh, and don't worry, after a week or so you won't even notice you are wearing them. If they are still bugging you after a couple of weeks, try getting acuvue oasis, that helped me alot.Hope my advice helps you out, good luck!

I would suggest consulting your optometrist they may have given you the wrong contacts

I always carry re-wetting drops....your eyes could be irritated....dry...or your lenses could be dirty....if they are red and itchy.... wear your glasses at night...or when your not doing anything...your eyes probably need a break from your contact lenses....hope this works for you!

Your eyes can change over time. I wore gas permeables for years and then my eyes wouldn't tolerate them. Tried soft lenses which drove me mad itching - they suck the water out of your eyes. I was stuck in glasses for 2 years until moved back home to my fabulous optician here (called Mr Glass, I kid you not!).

He recommended extended wear lenses (mine go in and stay in for 30 days and nights). They are made of a special material that repels the water in your eye, and let piles of oxygen through. They don't need cleaning and as you sleep with them in you wake up in the morning with perfect vision.

Mine are Bausch and Lombe Pure Vision, and they're great, although there are other types.

Can't recommend them enough - I couldn't wear any other lenses any more, and had even gone for a Laser Eye consult, only to be told I wasn't a suitable candidate due to thin corneas. I was in spec-wearing despair! Go to a really good optician - someone who really knows their stuff and is genuiney interested in keeping up to date and giving you the best product.

Mr Glass - you're the man!
