What we should and shouldn't do before and after an eye surgery?!

Question: My father will be going for an eye surgery to remove a piece of cloudy thing that's blocking his sights, it's what most old folks will have during their 50s-70s. Anyone know what is it? Anyway, my questions is what should we do or not do before n after the surgery? Anything that he should prevent from eating? I really need to know. Thank you.

It is a cataract. I just had the surgery in November and I'm only 48.
Your dad should get instructions from the medical center before he goes in. They'll be similar to these:
No eating or drinking anything after midnight the night before surgery. No alcohol 24 hours before; no aspirin 2-3 days before. Start using prescription drops 2 days before.
After surgery;
Continue using the drops as directed for up to 4 weeks.
NO HEAVY LIFTING or STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES for about 2 weeks. The eye will take 3-4 months to completely heal, but the first couple of weeks are crucial.
The doctor will put 1 stitch in the eye. He put a dis-solvable stitch in my left eye, but it didn't dissolve, so when he did the right eye he just used a regular stitch and snipped it out after 1 week.
Best of luck, he'll be fine. His vision will be so much better, he'll wish he'd done it sooner!

Cataract?
Vitreous opacity?
(most likely the former, but the average age to have a cataract op in UK/USA is around seventy, though it's dropping.)

Standard cataract surgery needs no special precautions as it is usually done under local anaesthetic. There is no need to avoid breakfast etc.
An eye patch will often be used to prevent the person from inadvertently touching the eye for the first day and overnight,
but is not normally needed after the first check-up..
