Contact prescription Question?!

Question:

Contact prescription Question?

Ok, I have been wearing contacts for a year now and glasses at home because I have astigmatism, can I use my glasses AXIS and CYL to order Toric contact since I have a contact prescription but it doesn't include AXIS and CYL or they are different from the glasses ones. Thanks

so the AXIS for glasses is different than contact?

Answers:

No you cannot alter your own prescription! Depending on the amount of astigmatism (under 1.00 diopter) it is very likely the astigmatism has been compensated into the prescription. Compensating would also change the first number in the prescription as well so the first number would not be the same if you had toric. The contact lens prescription is supposed to be different (in many cases) from your glasses prescription because of compensations made for the difference in distance (vertex distance) and possible compensations for lower astigmatism. If you have had a new eye test and need to update your contact lenses, you will need to let your eye doctor take care of that!
For contact lenses you need a valid contact lens prescription....and the only way to obtain that is from an eye doctor :)
EDIT*
The axis needed is likely to be the same... if your cyl is under 1.00 then it is probably compensated into your prescription. If it is a new prescription and your previous one did not have any "cyl" then you will need the doctor to make any changes to your prescription! Not only is it illegal to change your own prescription but there are too many variables to even try doing something like that
