Peroxide for ear infection?!

Question:

Peroxide for ear infection?

I went to the doctor and was told I had an ear infection. They gave me antibiotics. I have been on them for 5 days but it doesnt seem to do anything...My cousins dad told her to put peroxide in her ear to clear up ear infections and she said it worked...I wondered if this is true? Has this worked for anyone else? I put a little bit in my ear already and let it out...but Im worried? Has anyone else tried this?

Answers:

Do not put anymore in your ear. peroxide has medicinal properties, but can be too harsh for the delicate inner ear. Also, you may have ear wax built up and any fluid can get trapped behind the wax and cause increased irritation and infection. The only drops you should put in your ear are drops that the doctor has prescribed for you. It may be that you don't need any besides the oral antibiotics he has given you. Don't listen to other people, they're not going to pay for the new bill on your second visit back to the doctor. You also don't want to put anything into your ear canal at all. you can perforate your eardrum, especially if it is inflamed already by the infection. Be patient, if you don't notice a difference in several more days, then you may need to return to the MD.
