Total hip replacement, what is the temporary hip replacement called?!
Question:
Total hip replacement, what is the temporary hip replacement called?
Answers:
"Temporary" isn't a term that is generally used to refer to a hip prosthesis, except maybe the spacer that is inserted for a few weeks or months when an infection develops in a replaced hip and the implanted prosthesis has to be removed until the infection clears up. That would be an example of a temporary device since the surgeon intends to remove it and install a new hip replacement.
Otherwise, the various kinds of hip "fixes" (total replacement, partial replacement, or hip resurfacing) are considered permanently implanted devices, not temporary ones.
