The process of giving blood?!

Question:

The process of giving blood?

I'm a 17-year-old girl and I expect to give blood in the upcoming fall. I'm not very fond of needles, but I haven't been medically poked with one for about 9 years. Everytime I think about giving blood, I don't feel good :(.

Can someone walk me through the whole process, right from when I enter the room to when I go out? I'm kind of scared but I really want to donate my blood.

Some reassurance would help too :)

By the way, I'm 115 lbs and by blood pressure is usually about a 100/65 or something.

Answers:

its been a while but, you walk in and fill out a bunch of forms, they poke your finger and test a drop or two of blood to make sure you have enough red blood cells to donate, women sometimes have a problem with this so make sure you eat a bunch of green leafy vegitables for a couple days prior to get your iron up. then they ask you a bunch of questions about drungs and sex and what countries youve been to. then they finally take you to your recliner, pick out a vein, clean it with iodine and stick you with the needle. after the bag is full they get a couple tubes to test for various things and they wrap you up and tell you to have a snack. i think thats pretty much it.
