Why can't I wake up?!

Question:

Why can't I wake up?

My work starts at 8:30AM. I live close by so as long as I leave by 8:15 I can make it on time.

Normally my alarm clock is set for 6:30AM, sometimes I'll switch it to 5:30. I get plenty of sleep, usually going to bed between 9 and 11. But for some reason, when my alarm goes off, I do not want to get up.

It's nothing against my job, I like my job, it's interesting work. My body just doesn't want to move in the morning, with the exception of hitting the snooze button.

Moving the alarm clock isn't a good option. The one day I tried it, I put it in the closet. The alarm went off, I got out of bed, turned the alarm completely off, then crawled back into bed and went back to sleep. I was late for work.

Typically I finally get out of bed at 8:00, when I realize I have 15 minutes to get up and dressed. This is barely enough time to get ready. I've gone into work without brushing my teeth and I just feel so gross (although I always shower).

Any tips for waking up in the morning?

Some additional information:

I don't think it's lack of sleep. On the weekends I tend to stay up really late (2 to 3 in the morning) and I'll get up at around 9AM and be wide awake.

I also used to work 12 hour graveyard shifts. I would tend to get only 4 to 6 hours of sleep between shifts, but I was fine with it. I never had any problems waking up.

I think the main problem is my body does not want to wake up at 6 or 7 in the morning.

I'm just not a morning person.

Answers:

<>Your biological clock hasn't reset from your previous work shift. You have to re-train yourself to become awake. There are a number of wake-up services that will call you in the morning. Try one of them and keep it up until your body adjusts to the time frame. Eventually you will find yourself waking just before the alarm.
