Is getting your ears pinned back a serious operation?!

Question:

Is getting your ears pinned back a serious operation?

Answers:

Otoplasty (or Cosmetic Ear Surgery) is a complex surgery not to be taken lightly. The surgery normally takes about 2-3 hours and anesthesia is used. A slit is made in the skin on the backside of the external ear, exposing the cartilage which will be reshaped or removed. This surgery is most commonly done on children ranging in age from 4-14, as the ear reaches its full growth potential at age 4.

The recovery process of this procedure is rather mild, a child will be kept in the hospital over night due to the anesthesia. The ears will only hurt for a few days and the pain can be minimized with the usage pain medication (either over the counter or prescribed).
