If you broke your rib, would they be able to (with enough force) break the skin !
Question:
If you broke your rib, would they be able to (with enough force) break the skin causing an open fracture?
If you were to be smashed into something hard from backwards, or something hit you and your ribs broke, would there be a chance, or would they be able to break through the skin and cause an open fracture with the ribs sticking out?
As all of the organs are kept WITHIN the ribcage, they wouldn't be damaged right?
Has this ever happened to anyon? Or does anyone know about this sort of injury please?
What would it feel like exactly?
Please help!

By the way! This didn't happen to me but i want to know if it is possible?!
Answers:
Anything's possible. That kind of injury is highly unlikely. Ribs aren't under a spring-loaded force that makes them shatter outward when broken. And don't ever assume that a bone end you can see didn't do any damage to what you can't see. Ultimately, any rib fracture can potentially injure the thoracic organs regardless of how it looks on the outside. On the side, if a rib were to puncture your chest wall and penetrate your skin, I'm sure the person would be much more concerned by the accompanying respiratory distress felt as the body loses the ability to generate the negative intrathoracic pressure required for inspiration to occur. :-) (What would it feel like? How does one describe excruciating pain...)
