Spine Injection Therapy?!
Question:
Spine Injection Therapy?
Has anyone had disk/spine injection therapy? I'm interested in your opinions.
Answers:
There are a ton of different injections and it can be very confusing as to which is which. If you are talking about a epidural corticosteroid injection which is the most common and is used typically as a treatment for inflammation associated with a herniated disc then the following applies: Although injections may be helpful in confirming a diagnosis, they should be used primarily after a specific presumptive diagnosis has been established. Injections should not be used in isolation, but rather in conjunction with a program stressing muscle flexibility, strengthening, and functional restoration. Proper follow-up after injections to assess the patient's treatment response and ability to progress in the rehabilitation program is essential. A limited number of injections can be tried to reduce pain, but careful monitoring of the response is required prior to a second or third injection.
In other words, an epidural corticosteroid should only be given with an exercise regimen and after an appropriate diagnosis that calls for it. The are uncomfortable but if they wrk, well worth it.
However, its possible your doctor is recommending other types of injections. A list with link for further research is included.
