Hi. Are the glands on either side of your neck swollen? Does your throat throb/ache just sittig there, not turning/swallowing? (You can check your glands; feel just under your ears, in the hollow where your neck and jaw meet.) If yes, it sounds like you may have strep throat. It comes on slowly, but steadily, and it eventually hurts like the dickens! ( I used to get strep a lot!) It can switch sides, sort of like mumps, but sometimes it strikes like lightning! If it is strep, it isn't anything to fool with; maybe you should get a professional's opinion.(I know, but you ought to be careful; strep can lead to rheumatic fever.) If it gets worse as the day wears on, and doesn't get any better in 1-2 days, go! Please. As to the redness, or lack there of, it's waaay back in your throat, (where your tonsils are/used to be.) For relief from the pain, try a spray like Chloraseptic, it has a numbing ingredient. Also, gargling with warm salt-water will help. Just put table salt in a glass with warm water, and gargle. It doesn't last for a very long time, but it does work; and it won't do any harm. Also, the obvious throat lozenges; some of them also have a numbing agent. Hope you feel better! Oh! This almost never fails for a temporary pain-killer... drink a glass of orange juice! It stings with the first swallow, but then the little pain-givers retreat! And are silent for quite a while. Honest. Good luck.(oh. As if it isn't obvious, I'm not a pro. I just have an opinion.)
