Most doctors will discourage you from seeking treatment for cosmetic purposes only. More compelling arguments would include:
- Thrombophlebitis- episodes of painful swelling involving the vein
- Bleeding
- Skin changes - discoloration, itching
- Ulcers around the vein
Treatment options include:
- Compression stockings - 'graduated' ones are usually favoured. the idea is to press on the swollen veins and coax the blood out.
- Sclerotherapy - which involves injecting a chemical substance into the affecting vein to make it collapse
- Surgery
- Laser
See your doctor about this. they may take you on a step ladder approach starting from the stockings and moving up depending on how the veins respond.
