What can I do to force myself to sleep earlier at night?!

Question:

What can I do to force myself to sleep earlier at night?

I have this habit of being awake till 1am in the night (from college days) but now that I am working and need to get up by 8, it is effecting my eyes and my overall productivity.

But I just dont feel like hitting the bed earlier (11 or so). I usually browse the net / chat with my friends at night and I cannot do it earlier as they are not online earlier or I do not get the time to browse earlier.

I know its silly, but want to know if any of you had similar problem or have a solution to it!?

Answers:

I had the same problem when i got out of school and joined the work force- but unlike the other answers i really dident want to have to drink or take any medications to get myself to fall asleep- although i tried both and my health suffered- so my best solution is to get enough exercise, and then set up a routine for yourself so that your body knows that its time to go to bed.

Just like in the morning if you know you can hit the snooze butten 3 times but then you really have to get up, if you train yourself that after 10pm you need to brush your teeth, put on PJ's, music, read for ten min and then lights out your body will know that after lights out its bed time-if that doesent work dont lay in bed awake for more then 30-45 min and dont do activities like watch TV, read, play video games from bed- get up and do a calm activity out of your bed preferably out of your bedroom then try going to sleep again.

also another really inportant thing to do is to get up at the same time each morning so that if you dont get enough sleep your body will want to go to bed earlier the next night- rather then sleeping in in the morning.
