Is sitting too close to the tv still bad for the eyes?!

Question:

Is sitting too close to the tv still bad for the eyes?

Is it something about the tv? I've heard that this only pertains to really old tv's.

Answers:

Our moms used to say that years ago but it was never true!

Really old TVs (like from the 1950s) emit a lot of xrays, and that was considered dangerous at one time. When they found out about this, they told people to sit back 6 feet on these older sets. Some TVs made in the early 60s have a really thick pane of glass in front of the picture tube. That is some special kind of glass that blocks xrays. Anything made since 1960 or so would not be a problem.

You can -strain- your eyes if you sit really close, but that's not permanent damage.
