Question: I just stabbed myself with an exacto knife.(By accident) Will this cause problems?
I am really freaked out. I keep thinking there's a piece of metal in my leg (where I stabbed myself) but there's no metal off of the knife? I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!

What you need to do is make sure you are up to date with tetanus injections (you need one once every ten years) If there is no metal that has come apart from the knife then you don't have any stuck in your leg. If your cut hasn't stopped bleeding within 20 minutes then you will need to go to the hospital as it may need stitches but if it isn't bleeding profusely then you should be fine all you need to do is clean it out with some warm water and put antiseptic on it and a bandage but let it get air to it at least once a day. If you are getting a tingling sensation around the area then you need to go to the doctor as you may have damaged a nerve. Keep a close eye out for

- Red streaking
- Excess heat from wound area
- pus coming from the wound
- redness around the cut

these are signs of infection that you may need antibiotics for which you can get from your local GP.

Hope it all heals up fine = )

probably just being scared (not to make light of the situation). how big was the cut/ knife and how much did it bleed? you also might have done some damage to your leg. stop any bleeding and see a doctor

Firefighter-EMT, WFR, Lifeguard

tell your parent and the doctor. Let the doctor give you x-ray on your knee.
There might be a piece of something on the knife so when you stabbed it on you the object went into your knee
