Question: Ankle Sprain Help!!!!!!!?
I sprain my ankle pretty bad 2 days ago!. I don't think I snappped any tendons because I have nearly full range of movement that's only restricted by swelling, which is moderate!. What does concern me is the bruising which has been spreading since yesterday, and the swelling seems to be slowly moving up half my outer calf!. I don't have med insurance and don't want to make a trip to the doctor if all they're gonna do is give me crutches and pain meds and tell me to stay off it, ice it, elevate it and all that jazz!. So if there are any doctors or med students in the house that can advise me on this it will be much appreciated (ie should i rush to the doc or take care of it myself)Www@Answer-Health@Com

The pattern of bruising you are seeing is perfectly normal!. The standard advice is R!.I!.C!.E!. which stands for Rest, Ice, Compression (An ACE bandage) and Elevation!. It sounds like you have it in control!. You also should only use Ice for the first 72 hours!. After that heat (Like a hot bath) is better to get the circulation going!. Try to elevate your foot right after your bath!. Stay off it and still use the ACE bandage when ever walking for at least a week!. As the swelling goes down it might also hurt a little more as it continues to heal!. (This is also normal!.) It might take two weeks or even more to feel normal and have all the bruising go away!. Be very careful how you step in the meantime!. (No unnecessary twisting!.) Good luck!. If you still have problems after that see a doctor!. I think you will be fine!. Hang in there!.
