What type of treatments can be done about degenerative disc back problems?!

Question: What type of treatments can be done about degenerative disc back problems!?
I had to have an pelvic MRI and when the results came back one of the problems found was that I had degenerative disc disease!. I've been in a few car accidents in the past 30 years, and used to see a chiropractor about back pain!.
I've lost almost 100 lbs in the past 2 1/2 years and the back pain has pretty much subsided now that I'm at a normal weight for my height!. My gyn dr wants to send me to a specialist to discuss back surgery!. Under no circumstances do I want surgery on my back!. I was considering acupuncture (I've used that for other things with great success,) or going back to the chiropractor!.
Any other suggestions that would help are most welcome!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
I have degenerative disc problems and have thus far avoided surgery by first trying acupuncture, steroid injections, pain injections and chiropractic treatments!. I do take a regimen of pain medications which I get from an anesthesiologist ( a pain management Dr) and so far things are at least in a controllable way!. I am only 48 and have already had knee and hip replacements for DJD and am not ready for back surgery!. Talk to the back surgeon but do NOT let them rush you into surgery as many of them are MORE THAN HAPPY to perform surgery as that is how they MAKE THEIR MONEY!. I also go to physical therapy in the pool which has helped a lot!. There are many options to try before giving in to the old knife!.

If you have a pain management clinic in your area they can inject steroids directly in to your spine!. Some people say it helps!. I have spinal stenosis and got relief with them but it's not for the long haul!. The only thing they can do is put cadaver disc's in place of yours!. Not really a good thing I don't think but some people have had success!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

The epidural steroid injection is one alternative, although it didn't work for me!. Another is facet joint injections, where the nerve passing through the channels in the vertebrael colum are injected with a steroid and anaesthetic!. Again, didn't work for me, The last resort was to attack the same nerves with an electric pulse to kill them and eliminate the capacity pass pain signals to the brain!. Although I've been through this procedure twice, gradually moving up the spine and ultimately zapping 8 joints on each side, my pain has only been reduced slightly and I remain on pretty strong meds through a hospital pain management program!. My experience may differ significantly from others since I've got a combination of issues (fractured vertebra and rib, DDD, arthritis and bone spurs that inflame the surrounding tissue triggering incessant muscle spasms)!. In the process have lost 2 inches in height as the discs have compressed and a couple of verterbrae deteriorated significantly!. It's reached the point where my doc has suggested a morphine/baclofen pump implant to target the pain and spasms with as low a dose of medication as practical!.

Early on tried accupuncture, chiropractor, physical therapy to no avail!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
