It sounds like it's just a nasty bruise!. I'm not sure why, but anytime you get hit hard in the knee it will hurt really bad for a few seconds and then all of a sudden the pain goes away!. The feeling of wetness inside your knee could've just been fluids rushing to where you got hit!.
I would say worse case is that you bruised or got a minor tear in your meniscus!. This normally happens from twisting you knee, but it can also be from a hard impact!. If that's the case, it will probably stay swollen for another 2-3 weeks, but won't be too painful!.
Either way, putting ice on it will help, and if it's still swollen after a few weeks you should see a doctor!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would try to see a good board certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in orthopedic trauma; especially if you have instability in your knee joint, pain/swelling or bruising!. There is no way to know what you have injured without x-rays and a thorough clinical examination of your knee joint!. You may have just strained a ligament or tendon but you could have also fractured your patella or your tibial plateau requiring treatment!. You should try to see a good specialist near you (check aaos!.org or abos!.org for a listing)!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
Sounds like you fractured your knee cap or tore a tendon!. Don't wait go in now!. Put ice on it to reduce swelling!. Better safe than sorry!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
