Tramadol & Neurontin for herniated disc...does this help for herniated disc?!

Question: Tramadol & Neurontin for herniated disc!.!.!.does this help for herniated disc!?
I have 2 herniated disc's in my neck!. The doc prescribed Neurontin & Tramadol for pain!. The Neurontin is "take 1 capsule twice/day and 2 @ bedtime!." (300mg)!.
The Tramadol is "take 1 to 2 tablets every 6 hours!." (50mg!.)
I also have been prescribed Ibuprofen 800mg!., use when needed!.

Had x-rays and mri's=showed 2 herniated disc's!. I'm scheduled for a c6 & 7 epidural injection on July 15th!.

My question is has anyone used both of these meds for herniated disc's and has worked for them!? I started these on the 25th of this month (june), but finding no relief with them!.

I WAS on Darvocet, until my orthopedic surgeon sent me to my current neuro-surgeon (who prescribed these & is doing the injections)!.

Also, if I need the injections for c6 AND 7, will they just do one injection for both, or will they have to do 2 seperate injections!? It may be a stupid question, but I don't know all the answers!.

Thanks for any help!Www@Answer-Health@Com

hi-

the injections will likely be two different ones but might not be since the areas are next to one another!.!.!. i could be wrong!.!. im not sure about all of that and often times it can vary by the doctor!.

I can understand the neurosurgeon wanting to take you off darvocet!. that stuff is first off crap!.!.!. the FDA is being sued because of it as of recent times!. Also pain killers do carry a risk of addiction but its not as severe as some one to claim it is!. However they shouldnt be the first line of treatment for pain management!.

Tramadol can be good as it's non narcotic pain killer which can or cannot work!. It attatches to opiod receptors and can bring on pain relief but sometimes it doesn't work!.

As for Neurontin, this can really help nerve pain that can come from herniated disc but it often takes time to work!. Some people don't find it helpful for pain and others do!.

I take neurontin and I didn't think it was helpful however when i went off of it, i learned it was indeed helping!. I tried ultram (tramadol) however it caused problems with me as I was on and still on cymbalta and it just didnt work well together!.

It's common to use antiseizure medications like neurontin, topomax, Lyrica for pain as they help turn down the nervous system and can decrease pain sensation!.

If they dont work for you by the time you go back, you should tell him and see what can be done!.

I think Ibuprofen is great for the inflammation howver wrecks the stomach!.!.!.

i think this doctor is pronbbaly narcotic phobic as a lot of doctors are but at the same time, they should try as many non narcotic approaches first for pain relief!. Howevee there is a line to stop!.

I have chronic pain issues and than i got sciatic nerve issues!. THey think I have herniated disc but insurance hasnt allowed me to consult with a neurosurgeon yet!. Because of my chronic pain, neuropathy, rheumatoid arthritis and so on, im on narcotics but i tried for years without them and tried injections, physiotherapy and so much else first!. Pain got worse over time so now im glad to be on narcotics!. I go to a pain clinic and they are the ones that treat me for my pain issues!. So if the epidurals dont work!.!. im sure they will and the treeatments dont work and this doctor is resistant to try different options, try looking into pain clinic options!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Whilst I have not experienced a herniated disc myself, I've certainly looked after plenty of people who have, and they all report the same thing you do, the "standard" drug regime just doesn't work!.

The one thing they all agree on is that you need something to relax you, as that'll provide the greatest relief!. Valium or Endone are the drugs of choice!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Dont

You have herniated disc, Does the pain go away at night!?

If not then you also have Myofacial pain!.

Neck traction is the worlds best treatment for herniated neck dics!. You can do that at home!. Pump cervical collars and neck traction units are available at most stores!.

You are not getting any treatment, you are getting a white wash of your symptoms!.
