My sister has been smoking off and on for four years.?!
Question: My sister has been smoking off and on for four years!.!?
She recently quit for eight months and started back and has been smoking for 2 months!. She smokes somewhere between 2-4 cigarettes a day and she's trying to quit again!. Any tips on how she can quit for good!?Www@Answer-Health@Com
Answers:
First of all, she has to WANT to quit!. Otherwise, she won't really try to keep up with anything to actually quit!.
There are different ways and depending on the person, some may work better than others!.
She could "wean" herself off by reducing the amount of cigarettes she smokes per day, and then replacing those with something like nicotine gum or the patch!.
There is a great new medication out called Chantix that has been getting great results!. I have a friend that used this and it worked very well!. As with any medication, there are side effects possible!. She'd want to check with her doctor before trying anything!.
Then there is always alternative ways such as counseling, hypnosis, herbal medicines, support groups, etc!. Once again, she should talk to her doctor and figure out what might work best for her!.
I know it is hard to quit!. I never smoked myself, but my sister did (and occassionally still does unfortunately)!. We watched our dad die from emphysema over the course of 1 year (after diagnosis)!. It is a TERRIBLE way to die!. And it happened just before I got married!.
If she plans on having kids, or has kids, she really should consider not only quitting for her own health, but the health of her children, and also so she can be there for them when they finish school, get married, have kids, etc!.
But either way, whatever she does, try to help her and be there to support her in quitting!. Ask her what you can do to help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
