We have an acronym in emergency medicine!.!.!.
RICE

Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate!.
Rest!.!.!.that's simple!.!.!.stay off it! The more you rest it, the faster and better it will heal!.

Ice!.!.!.20 mins on 20 mins off 4-6 times a day!. Just be sure to place a thin facecloth between the ice and your skin!.!.!.you don't want to deal with frostbite on top of a sprain!.!.!.that sucks! Also, consider using a bag of forzen peas, corn, etc!. Something that you won't plan on eating and that you can refreeze and throw out when all is said and done!. The small frozen veggies tend to mold well around the odd joints, like shoulders and ankles!.

Compress!.!.!.use an elastic wrap around the joint to help manually squeeze the joint to prevent excess fluid (edema) from building up in the joint!. This is the ususal cause for pain from the strain/spain!.

Elevate!.!.!.again keep off the foot and keep it elevated higher than your hips so the edema doesn't fill up and pool in the joint!. Edema is the body's way of splinting the joint from the inside (inflammatory effect and that's a whole different lesson), however, it hurts and tends to prolong healing!.

If your MD prescribed you either narcotics or NSAIDs (tylenol, advil/motrin, etc!.) take them as written and don't forget to eat food with them as they tend to cause an upset stomach!.

Good luck and if you haven't gotten the unerlying hint!.!.!.STAY OFF THE FOOT!!!! LOL

Get well soon!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Stay off it as much as you can!.

Ice the ankle with frozen peas or something similar - the frozen peas help with compression!. Ice it for 15 minutes every 1 or 2 hours!.

Wear a compression bandage to squeeze the swelling out!.

Elevate it above the level of your heart while you are icing it and whenever else you possibly can!.

Take iboprofen a few times a day for pain and inflamation!.

Above all dont use heat! Heat will increase the bleeding inside your ankle and make it bruise and swell a lot more!

Good luck!. I hope its better soon!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Wrap it tightly with an ace bandage and keep your feet elevated higher than your heart!. Put ice packs on it for 20 min!. at a time several times a da!., and don't be walking on it unless you absolutely have to!. You'll have to see how your ankle's doing towards the middle of next week!. You don't want to make it worse!.!.!.!.!.!.!.sounds like it's already serious if it's the size of a peach!. If you have crutches use them so you don't have to put your weight on that foot, and good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

You're also supposed to elevate it while the ice is on it!. And try not to walk on it for the duration!. Wrap it in an ace bandage to bind up the swelling when you DO have to walk on it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Icee Icee baby!. Heh, but seriously, put ice on it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
