I have a tens machine for my back problems, but I think it makes it worse!?!
Question: I have a tens machine for my back problems, but I think it makes it worse!!?
I have used it 4 times now and every time
I do about 3 or so hours later
I am so uncomfortable, I can't lie down to sleep or sit and watch telly, it is so so uncomfortable!. Can the tens irritate the nerves in my back, the hospital physiotherapist says it is impossible, but it seems to!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
It is not likely to be causing nerve irritation!. But if it is set to high or if the stimulation is causing you localized pain from the stimulation, then you could be tensing the musculature, which would then cause muscle pain later!.
Have the physiotherapist work with you on pad placement, and setting level, possibly starting at a low level and buildiing to a target level over a few days!. Also after the TENS is off, you might try using moist heat to increase the circulation to the area, which will decrease the muscle tension response!.
If after a few more days trial, you are still not resolving this issue, then it may just not be an appropriate therapy!. DIscuss the therapy with your GP or Specialist!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Ask them to teach you again exactly where to position the pads!.
Try adjusting the strength and frequency, using a lower setting until you get used to it!. Maybe also use it for shorter periods of time at first!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If it hurts even after two days then stop using it, Very very light exercises of upper and lower back muscles without any aid of a machine ( ask your local gym trainer )may help!. Otherwise see a doctor or seek chiropractic attention!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
I don't know about a tens machine but a complete checkup and regular maintenance from a Chiropractor will change your life!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
