i used to get them all the time from running and soccer & my coach showed me a trick!.
put your hands on on a wall and make sure your legs are as far away from the wall as you can go (basically so your leaning forward against the wall) make sure your heels on the ground if your legs are far enough away you'll feel the stretch in your shins!.
