Your description sounds like a Ganglia Cyst, nothing cancerous, but certainly it can be painful and impede hand function. Since you've been seen by a Medical Professional, I wonder why it wasn't diagnosed properly? You need to return to where it was you were seen for it and discuss this as you paid for it in one way or another!! I had them in both of my wrists and had to have them surgically removed..after they healed, I was so glad I had done so!!

It is quite common
It is called a "ganglia"
They can do surgery, but one of the old school methods of removing a ganglia was to lay your hand on a table and smash down on th ganglia with a heavy book because a ganglia is a mass of calcified minerals .
Then it it absorbed into the bloodstream and taken care of.
However, this fix is only temporary, it may or may not come back

I have what it seems you have. it is a cyst. but of what kind i dont know. Now with mine it fills with fluid every once in a whil and it hurts and gets bigger. So i go to the doctor an they stick a needle in and suck out the fluid. Then its gone.
