My knee has been hurting since the summer, what is wrong?!

Question: My knee has been hurting since the summer and I can't figure out what is wrong. I went to the doctor's in the summer but all he said was that if the pain continues, I should get an x-ray. Anyway, the pain came back at full throttle last week and I haven't been able to get rid of it. It feels like a stabbing pain in my knee cap, sometimes dull stabbing and other times sharp stabbing. It hurts constantly, not just when I stand or sit down. It's really bothering me. Can anyone tell me what may be causing this pain and what may be wrong with me?

You probably need to have an MRI done. It will show any damage to the soft tissue. I hurt my knee several years ago and the x-rays never showed anything, the doctor thought I was just being whinny (or wanting pain pills). They finally did an MRI that showed there really was damage done to it. Until then, you may want to try getting a brace for it or wrapping it in an ACE bandage. It will help stabablize everything.

you could have torn a cartilage. Your doctor should be able to refer you to an orthopedic doctor who will be able to diagnose you better.
