This is called a vagal response. It is a stimulation of the vagus nerve that may result from a noxious stimulus like painful dental work, or in your case exposure to a needle. This nerve affects your body to make you pale, have a low heart rate and blood pressure and also sweaty and nauseous. This is all a nerve reflex and if it is bad enough your low blood pressure may cause you to faint.
