Can sugar be considered a drug?!

Question: I don't think it is considered a drug because it is not mind-altering, and nor does it 'drug' you in the medical sense.

Although, it IS addictive and you can suffer from very bad withdrawal symptoms after cutting sugar out from your diet. The symptoms can be worse than giving up smoking, say. You can feel sick, be sick, get headaches and feel like you have a cold.

You can also get a sugar-rush, but that is to do with energy levels rather than mind-altering. It makes you extremely hyperactive and giddy while the sugar is released into the blood stream, and then when the sugar 'wears off' you can get a 'come down'. My boyfriend suffers terribly with these come-downs, and avoids sugar as much as he can. Just one little bit of sugar for him means he will feel awful as soon as it is washed through his system.

But drugs are things that alter your mind and can harm you (in the illegal sense) or make you better (in the medical sense). I don't think sugar does either of these things... so in my mind, at least, it's not a 'drug' as such.

Yes it can technicly...

yeah. basically anything addicting is like a drug.

only if your a kid or an ant ants love sugar it makes them go crazy

I've certainly never heard of sugar being considered as a drug. Then again, I suppose it could possibly be. For example, people have been known to become very hyper-active if they consume too much sugar, plus it increases your energy levels only to have you crash faster with big consequences.

When I was a child, I was extremely hyper-active & had to be kept away from sugar most of the time, especially at night time because I would go absolutely crazy, LOL!

sure, just as with drugs when you quit them you suffer withdrawal symptoms. It is kind of hard to kick that 1 item as it is in just about everything.
