Pain in my knee is getting worse?!

Question: i have had pains in my left knee for about 4-5 mos. now. at first, when i told my dad about it, he said it was just growing pains. it has slowly been getting worse, though. at first it would come and go, and usually only when i was being really active or running or something. on a scale of 1-10 it now hurts about 4-6 constantly, even when i sit and have it up on a footstool. i haven't said anything about it to my parents or anybody since 5 mos ago when it first started because i didn't want to be whiny. and btw, im 14.
what could this be?????

My first 'guess' is Osgood Schlatter's disease. This is an inflammation of the patellar tendon where it attaches to the tibia. However, there are many, many potential causes of your pain. Whatever the cause of your knee pain, it should be taken seriously.

A consultation with a medical doctor trained in orthopedics and/or your family Chiropractor would be appropriate for you.

Best wishes and good luck.

You need to tell your parents that it has been bothering you for months and that you need to go the a doctor to get it checked out it could be something that needs to be treated you need to go tell them that its important

It could be a lot of different things. You need to tell your parents or a school nurse.

yah it is growing pains, I have grown like 5 inches in a year ...which is a lot...your knees haven't caught up with your body, so your knee cap isn't in line with you lower leg bone and your femur.
hope this helps..
the pain will stop when you stop growing..I am not done so it stinks ....you need to tell ur doc. they can proscribe some meds to prevent pain and dis.

I doubt your Dad would think it's just growing pains when you tell him that your knee has continued to hurt ever since you first told him. He more than likely will give you a little lecture about waiting so long to tell him again.

You certainly are not being a whiner or btw you are being a concern person with good cause I might add. You really need to have this evaluated by a medical doctor. It could be something that needs minor treatment or something major. Pain is the conscious of our bodies. We can ignore aches and pain types of pain but persistent pain is the voice yelling, "help me, I need help."

Your parents wouldn't want you to remain silent about this, tell them. Good Luck.

well my daughter is four and she cried about knee pains for a wile, one day she was screaming so loud, that I knew in my gut it was not growing pains. we had to take her to the er that night and she ended up having child arthritis. They did say that some children do having growing pains so bad that they cry all the time. But i am 26, I also have very bad pain in my knees , they cant figure out what it is so they are putting me on steroids for a wile to help the pain. You really need to tail k to your parents. With knee pain it could be so many things, sometimes they cant even figure it out. So talk to them and just let them know that it really hurts and you have been hiding the pain for a wile, crying in silence. talk to your mother, sometimes dads are more into tough in it out, it is their nature, not a way of being mean.
