Question about my knee?!

Question: about a year and a half ago i twisted my knee real bad playing wally ball in the Navy (kinda like volley ball except its played on a racketball court and the ball is playable off the walls) well i didn't think much of it cuz it only hurt realy bad for about a week so id didn't report it. so now for the past oh iwould say 4 and a half months it has been hurting pretty bad (almost to the point it brings tears to my eyes and i can't walk). i've tried every pain medicine that doesn't need a prescription. i don't really like to go to the doctor so i was wondering if anyone knew whether it is some type of arthritis caused by damage from an injury or what? My fiance wants me to go to the doctor and have it checked out but she keeps thinking i would need knee surgery and i don't like the idea of being under a knife.

whoa bacon thats tough man yo dawg i agree with what these ppl said go to a doctor man please you dont want it to get worse

sounds like you hurt your meniscus in your knee....i would go to the doctor, surgeries for this are pretty easy and good outcomes now-a-days....besides, you're still young and want to be active...you don't want this bothering you the next 50 years and it will only likely lead to more problems. it really is true that the ankle bone is connected to the knee bone etc. etc. etc.

It could be meniscus as previously mentioned but typically if you have a tear or a detached meniscus you will feel a catch. Almost like your knee wants to give out. I think you might have something more going on like a ligament issue. See your orthopedic doctor. Just because you are having pain doesn't mean you will have surgery or even get a needle stick. Your doctor will probably do some functioning tests and see what your range of motion is...most likely will see if the pain can be reproduced. Sometimes the functional tests are by feel as well so there will be some palpitation during your tests. At times this can be uncomfortable. You may possibly get an MRI to look at the entire knee structure. This is painless. Your doctor may just give you some medicine to help with the discomfort, possibly some physical therapy, and maybe a brace to protect and prevent. Some of the surgeries done these days have minimal scaring and are done arthroscopic. Don't be scared in the end you will be saving yourself from future arthritic pain!

Unless you have renjured your knee in the last 18 months do not think it would be meniscal in nature. If you had torn the meniscus this is something that would have been painful all along. Of larger concern is if you initially bruised or fissured the articular cartledge and it is degenerated to the point you have bone contact. Best thing to do is go to orthopedist have MRI and if needed get the knee cleaned up. It is simple surgery, you will be in and out in one day.
