Any ideas???? I can't sleep and when i do well i feel like i havent?!

Question: I can't sleep at the moment, and the other week when i coudl sleep, well no amtter what all i did was sleep, mum got worried and when i woke up i never felt refreshed. I tried progressive relaxation and a few other techniwues like meditation relaxation and listening to soothing music but i still didn't get to sleep for over an hour! I only had 4 or 5 hours sleep last night and the other nights i am only getting around 7.

I am 18 and was jsut wondering if any one could point me in a direction where i don't have to take tablets... There isa small possibility i could siffer from lupus- getting tested for it now. take three weeks max for the results.

No stressy friends.

Herbal tea.

A good book (Psychology should do the trick)

Relaxing properly.

Mild exercise(Powell said it helps people to fall asleep in ALL circumstances)

Sleepovers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

If you are able to get 7 hours sleep and are still waking up feeling tired, you should be tested for sleep apnea.

Since sleeping is your major complaint, I suggest you visit a sleep specialist who will do a sleep study. This will outline for him or her the reasons you're sleeping oddly.

TX Mom

well i have the same prob and i no this sound stubid but if you put a amathiyst crystal (not sure how yhoo spell it) under your pillow it does work i thought it was silly but it helped me i didn't sleep for bout a week only got bout 5 hours and still felt tired also if yhoo listen to some music it stops yhoo thinking as much so yhoo get tiered quicker hope it helps

have you ever tried doing a low impact work-out before bed? im 19 and had the same problem for years and i thought it was just because i was a night owl. but ive since started to do pilates or a yoga work-out before bed (30 min). you can just buy a yoga dvd and it works just fine. also try a herbal tea for night time. i found the main reason i didnt sleep was because my body wasnt tired. so by doing a little work-out and then relaxing my body with tea/a hot shower works great.

Hello,

(ANS) All human beings have something called a body clock, an internal cycle or thyme, its also called the circadian thyme. The body clock is regulated or triggered by light, (on & off by day light or the loss of daylight i.e. sunrise & sunset ) The sun rise & sun set influence a hormone in the body & brain called Dopamine, its the levels of dopamine that cause us to fall asleep or wake up.

No.1 Your sleep cycle may be out of sync with your body clock i.e. it could have fallen out of its regularity for some reason.

No.2 Worrying about things (events) else where in your life style could keep your mind very busy just when your brain should be quietening down for sleeping. such as relationship problems, exams , debts, etc.

No.3 My suggestion is that you may well find it helpful to keep a sleep dairy over a few weeks or a couple of months if the problem persists? Note: down which nights you slept well & for how long, did you dream & did you remember your dreams, how many hours of sleep and the quality of that sleep.

No.4 if you continue to have on going insomnia or broken sleep patterns you can go and see your GP and they can refer you for a sleep study to see if anything more can be done to improve the quality of your sleeping.

Kind Regards Ivan

Do you sleep really late in the mornings? Getting 7 hours of sleep should be enough for almost anyone. Sometimes I only get 5, and I feel as I've slept plenty. If your test shows that you don't have lupus, and that you're otherwise fine, then I would suggest using some herbal tea, such as "sleepy time." Some other suggestions would be getting up earlier in the morning, so that you'll be more tired and ready for rest, or drinking some warm milk about an hour before you go to bed.
