Ribs pop out of place?!

Question: I had 3 of my upper ribs that popped out of place, the ones that go under my shoulder blade...and they were put back into place a couple days ago. However, I am still experiancing pain, and I am unsure if they are popped out again or not? I also have a sharp but not intense pain when I breathe deeply...but it isn't frequent. I am confused, and what could I do to relieve the pain other than medication????? any thoughts would be appreciated

Ribs are going to be sore, even if they 'pop out of place'. They are very moody and don't like to stay where they were told. It will take more than one 'pop', and there will be a lot of re-training in the thoracic (mid back) musculature, healing in the ligaments and general healing in the joints.

It is rare to truly 'pop' a rib out of place. The anatomy doesn't allow that kind of movement without significant trauma. They may not be moving properly, and need some 're-alignment' and that is different. Either way, they take a long time to heal. In the meantime, your osteopath/chiropractor can give you some ideas for exercises, ibuprofen (see the label), analgesic creams (ben-gay, flex-all, etc.) and ice (Not Heat, it will only make joint swelling worse right now, in a week or so it will be fine). Good luck and I hope you get on the mend soon.
