What do you do for a migraine?!

Question: At least I think it's a migraine. I've never had one before.. but it hurts so, so much. I took a Motrin and it didn't work at all.

Is there anything I can do to make it go away?

Migraines are harder to cure than to prevent, but you can try several things. For some people cold on their head, face, neck works. For me, heat works. I like a hot shower beating on my head, and I've even held a heating pad on low across my forehead and against my temples, etc.

Motrin works on inflammation, so it could help, but if you can also take Tylenol that will work directly on the pain. I think the over-the-counter migraine relief meds are the equivalent of 2 Tylenol, 1 Aspirin, and enough caffeine to equal a cup of strong coffee--no lie: Caffeine is an analgesic (pain reliever). If you don't like coffee, have a Coke or Pepsi or something like that with the meds.

Hope that helps. Migraines may cause stomach upset, visual disturbances, etc. If you're a female, you could get them related to your menstrual cycle. I can't tell from your signature if that might be the case. If you get another headache like this, take the meds immediately; again, it's much easier to prevent a migraine than cure it once it starts. If you get a third one, see your doctor. It's a pattern you want to let get started, and you can take things to prevent them.

The first few times I got migraines, I was still a kid. I thought I was going to die that night. So I wrote a goodbye note to family ... true story.
One of the types of migraines I get is occular migraines, due to a light sensitivity. I first see white sparkling dots, and then after about twenty minutes, it goes away and I get a killer headache. Since, I got sunglasses, I only get these once or twice a month, instead of nearly everyday. I get other migraines at times, probably due to allergies.

Hear is the only thing that works for me. As soon as I know one is coming, I take the prescibed dosage of Excedrin Extra Strength. It is the only one that works for me. If I take it right away as soon as I sense one is coming, by the time it hits, the Excedrine takes the edge off, and makes it more bearable.
