Osgood schlatter help?!

Question: i was told i had osgood schlatter disease in the summer after 6th grade. now im in 9th grade and its still not going away.

ive been to physical therapy for weeks for this 2 different times at two different locations

it was going away during the football season for some reason and then when basketball started it came back i just felt a snap and it hurt me again

ive talked to doctors and everyone but nothing is fricken working

ive tried knee braces and stuff like that and something called a cho pat strap. none of it is working

ice isnt helping, and neither is stretching
im playing basketball and lifting everyday with the football team

i cant take it anymore and i will do anything to get it to go away

is it time for surgery? it that the only option left?
what can i do to make it go away or make it possible to play sports with it? im trying to suck it up and endure the pain but i cant anymore. my knee keeps collapsing in on me?

help!!!!!!!!!!!!

alrigth, first as the doctors should have told you..this is not a condition that you should be playing hard sports with. You can cause irreparable damage to your knee. However, if you are set and there is no changing your mind about the sports...then you need to stretch, a lot. Much more than they do for warmups. http://www.mcnicholaskneeclinic.co.uk/pd...
here is a link to a patients guide about your condition and things to help you live with it. I'm sorry, but just like the docs you've seen, there isn't much I can tell you. It's annoying I know, but its something that just is...Even surgery wouldn't help. If they haven't reallyt explained what it is, it's a temporary condition that happens when your bones are growing faster than the muscles. It's pretty common and something like 1 in 50 kids will experience it at some point in their life. It usually happens in what we call growth spurts, that's why it may come and go also. Even if you were to have surgery to lengthen the tendon to relieve the pressure now, eventually your muscles will grow and that tendon will now be to long. Stretching man, that's about it. Take IBuprofen (motrin) in small doses for the swelling...but don't become too dependant on it.

You need to stop doing so much. The basketball and weight lifting in just aggravating your problem. Give yourself a rest for a few months.

when you were first diagnosed with osgood shclatter, you should have immediately cut back on your activity. its still ok to do exercise, however you should be doing exercise that is less stressful on your knee. basketball is a sport especially irritating to osgood schlatter. ice before and after using your knees extensively. good luck in your recovery
