Is this Claustrophobia?!

Question: I can not sit in a room with the door closed because i feel trapped and I can not sit in a room if the walls are not painted white and bright, I start to freak out. I have OCD and PMS but i did not know that i have claustrophobia, my mom also has claustrophobia so i know i do. If i'm in a room with the door shut i start getting panicking, wanting to faint and my heart starts to beat fast. Does my doctor need to know about this or is it common??

This is definitely closterphobia! Definitely let your Doctor know...he/she be able to recommend some therapeutic interventions to relieve some of the syptoms you experience when you are feeling 'trapped'. Dark walls tend to make a room seem smaller, that's why you prefer bright white walls. You can add mirrors to a wall to make the room seem larger...mirrored squares or strips along the wall at opposite end of room.

Yes, that is claustrophobia and your doctor needs to know about it.

it is claustrophobia...you don't have to tell doctors or anything, but just be careful where you stay. =]

Claustrophobia isn't really rare - but you should definitely see a doctor or psychiatrist about it - they could probably help you. It doesn't mean you're crazy, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise!
