My boyfriend has quit drinking, what should we expect?!

Question: We've been together 9 years, he's been heavily drinking for the past 4.

Heavy drinking. Sometimes an entire bottle of rum in a day. Drank while alone. Had 'blackouts' (couldn't remember what he did or said while drinking).

Anyway, does anyone have experience with an alcoholic who quit drinking? What should I expect, and how can I help?

just like with any drug, he may experience relapses. Mood swings, anger depression, substituting another behavior such as smoking for the drinking. I suggest that he finds a twelve step program such as alcoholic anonymous for support. It really helps because the whole support group will understand what he is going through and he won't be alone. Above all DO NOT be discouraged if he does have a relapse! He really has to make the decision to stop himself no one can do that for him. I wish you both much luck!

if he's really hard core, alcohol withdrawals alone can kill him. get him valium for first three days, that's what they do in rehabs...
good luck!

get proffessional help straight away stoppin drinking on your own can cause major health problems he will need monitering pls dont do this without help
