What is wrong with my jaw?!

Question: one morning recently i woke up with lock jaw, i went to the doctor and he gave me anti inflamitories, it happened again to me and i ended up in a&e and the doctor their told me i could have slight arthrithis, anyway i made a trip back to my doctor as the pain is so bad and she said she would refer me to a specialist, i cant open my mouth as wide as i used to, like i cant eat a burger or anything chewy as it is too painful. i used to have a clicking in my jaw but sence the lockjaw it has gone and i can hardly open my mouth.
i went to the dentist to see if i could be grinding my teeth in my sleep or was my wisdom teeth the cause and i got a mouth guard to wear at night but my teeth are not the problem,. what is wrong with me?

Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJD, TMJ or TMD), or TMJ syndrome, is an umbrella term covering acute or chronic inflammation of the temporomandibular joint, which connects the lower jaw to the skull. The disorder and resultant dysfunction can result in significant pain and impairment. Because the disorder transcends the boundaries between several health-care disciplines
