Why do they still use plaster casts?!


Question: i was placed in a very HEAVY plaster cast after igot a broken arm. dr refused to use a fiberglass cast

They all serve a different purpose
For example, if your arm was shattered, they would use a plaster cast, it can't be removed, it allows for no movement at all in the arm
If your had a greenstick fracture or regular break, they would use a fiberglass cast
It all depends on the injury and how the limb needs to be positioned for the healing process
Most likely, you will have the plaster cast, it will be removed, and you then will have a fiberglass cast for a short while until you fully recover

maybe its what the insurance allows.my son had fibergalss. i wanted to put him in the waterproof one this June (115 degrees in summer) but he said that was a bad idea.
