Awww, I'm so sorry about your little cat.....my cat broke her leg, too, about a year ago. She fell off the kitchen counter when she was trying to jump. My vet lets me sign a contract and give them several post-dated checks to pay out the bill. They are really good about working with us. Did your vet mention surgery? All my vet did was give my kitty a little gas to put her to sleep for a few minutes while he set the fracture and put the cast on. He said it would heal on it's on once set. At first, my cat didn't like the cast and kept chewing on it. But eventually she got used to it and it didn't seem to bother her. She got the cast off after about 4 weeks and was all better. She started walking on the leg as if it was never broken. Also, my vet told me to use a special kitty litter....not the clay type because it might get inside the cast and irritate. They make a cat litter called "Today's News" which is made of shredded newspaper or you can shred up your own newspaper. I totally understand how you feel about selling all your possessions because your cat is your life. I'm the same way about my cats. I love them so much and would risk my life for them if I had to. I just wish everyone felt that way about animals. I'm sure your kitty will do just fine because he has you to love and care for him. Give him a kiss for me.

Yes, many vets will work out a payment plan with you. You just need to be open and honest with the vet about your situation and discuss your options.

why are you in a hurry to do surgery? allow it to heal. The cast should help. Surgery is done when the cast fails.

Don't sell anything... just ask about payment options. Sometimes you'll be surprised on how little a monthly payment will be..

poor baby....i'm sure that vets will set up a payment plan for you. tell them your situation, and maybe they can set something up with you. good luck, and i hope your little buddy feels better. I can't stand to see my cats suffer in any way, so i can imagine how you are feeling.

I'm so sorry about kitty. I agree with the other postees about some vets allowing for payment plans. I would Not get the leg amputated, at least not until more than one vet recommends it. Perhaps you can take your cat to a teaching vet hospital, and it may be more affordable(?) Wishing kitty a great recovery.
