HORRIBLE HEADACHE please help !?!

Question: I have had this horrible pounding headache for the last week. It came on suddenly and just won't go away. I have gone to the ER twice and they have done nothing for me. Its not a migraine, I don't believe I don't have sensitivity to light or sound no nausea. I have no neck pain, just a pounding headache. It's also not my sinuses or my ears. It's not caused by lack of sleep or caffeine or too much of either. I have not been under any stress. I have been taking ibuprofen ( 4 ) and one tylenol every 4 hours and it hasn't even slightly dulled it. I just want this pain to go away! Any ideas? I have also tried heat and cold both seem to make it worse. Or if you have any ideas for talking to doctor to get them to do something for this pain???

I know how u feel. i had the same problem & i was told that its not migranes etc but the pain was horrible. what i did was try and make myself as comfortable as possible...pillows, cushions, blankets, bed, whatever makes you comfy. one doctor told me to play soothing music in the background. I had a perscription for Ponstan which relaxes tense muscles & they are great. Also if you burn lavender oil this relaxes your muscles also. try all these coz honestly i found them great help!

Hope you feel better soon!

it may be a rebound headache from too much medication, try not taking anything and see if that helps... sometimes the medication itself can be the cause... GOOD LUCK!! I know how you feel, I go weeks with headaches also.

Be careful not to overdose on the Tylenol Did you no ibuprofen has Tylenol in it? so i would take one or the other but not together.
Do you wear you hair in a pony tail or a bun? that can cause it. An if your hair is tangly when brushing it out will cause it too. try laying down in a quiet room with the lights off for a little while the put an ice pasck on it. but if it makes it worse....i would take it off.

Could you be PMS ing? i know that is weird but I get pms headaches. ugh. or lay in a hot bath. that might help just don't fall asleep in it. Sorry. good luck! happy holidays

did the er run any tests? a brain scan or mri? if not, they might be missing something. if you can say that this is the "worst headache of my life", then you need to be in the ER. or, tomorrow is monday, call your family doc first thing, ask for the nurse and explain what's happening, and that the er did nothing for you. if someone can honestly say, this is the worst headache of my life, they need to be seen by a doc, asap. good luck.

Angie, since you have been to the er twice, and they couldn't find anything wrong, thankfully, I think I might be able to help. You mentioned that you haven't been under any stress, thats great! But be aware that stresses come in different ways, physical, mental and emotional.
First you need to go back to the day your headache started, what did you do? Where did you go? Who did you speak to? Did someone hurt your feelings? Did someone make you angry? Did you invite the whole family over for the holidays? Maybe your mother inlaw is coming. lol. Silly as it sounds, "There is something or someone that you have to deal with in the days ahead."
This is the time of year that although joyous in spirit, it can be very emotionally overwhelming as well. So please get out the pen and paper and write down what you can remember of that first day. If you don't find anything there, take a look at your to do list, maybe it's too long, if it is cross out the things that really don't matter.
Believe me when you do this writing you will definitely find thing that something just isn't sitting well with you at this time. The headache is a distraction. Once you have found the culprit, You have to tell yourself you don't need this pain, that you can handle whatever it is.
All the best

Does it feel like a vise or a band is around your head and being tightened ? Do you want to throw the telephone through the window because everyone keeps asking if your headache's gone yet and the sound is only making the pain worse? Does brushing your hair feel like you're being scalped ?

If the answers are yes, you are probably suffering from a stress headache and they can be caused by a lot of things - including pain some place else in the body.

I know because I have suffered through them . I now suffer from migraines but I do know what you are going through.

Go to your doctor and tell him or her about your symptoms and they will generally prescribe something for it. Follow their advice. I hope this helps.
