how can i get rid of a fever blister that is just starting...i always get them after being sick and this one is just starting and i want to get rid of it fast...any suggestions

Answers:

I get fever blisters after I'm sick too. No fun! This is what I do when they come up.

1. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP! Put ice on your lips for 5-15 minute periods (or as long as you can stand!) Your lips will hurt until they go numb, but this will help kill the virus. Every time I feel the "tingle" I put ice on my lips and the blisters never come up. This will also help new blisters from forming. Ice it for as long as you possibly can!

2. If a blister does come up, take a sterile needle and pop it. Some people might argue that this will not help - but personally I think letting the blister grow is far worst.

3. Dab out the clear liquid with a cotton ball and discard. Try hard not to spread the clear liquid because this will spread the virus. The blisters are most contagious at this stage so wash your hands!

4. Dab rubbing alcohol on the blister every 5 minutes all day long until the blister is dried up. Yes you will have a small scab, but this is the quickest way to kill the virus and begin the healing process.

5. Once the blister has scabbed, put the scab through dry and wet extremes. Dry it up with rubbing alcohol, then add moisture with AD&D ointment. Keep putting it through both extremes to help the scab heal faster!
