Why do doctors advice people to take curd with antibiotics?!
Question:
Why do doctors advice people to take curd with antibiotics?
Answers:
Antibiotics kill thebacteria in the gut that we need for good gut function. Curd, yoghurt, sauerkraut all contain some of the bacteria we need and help to overcome the problem by providing the good bacteria, so that the bowel flora (bacteria, fungi etc) doesn't get out of balance.
If you take antibiotics and don't put back the bacteria in the gut, you may suffer from diarrhoea or constipation, or generalised malaise or indigestion.
Some people buy probiotics (good bacteria in capsule or powder form) to reflorinate the gut.
I hope this helps, and wish you all the best.
