My doctor doesn't seem to understand that I need my anxiety to go away right now!

Question:

My doctor doesn't seem to understand that I need my anxiety to go away right now?

I am having bad anxiety. I can barely make it to work, my chest burns constantly, I grind my teeth, I can't concentrate on my college work and my grades are starting to feel it. So I go to the doctor and she puts me on 10 mg of Citalopram. Two weeks and still, so far, constant anxiety all the time. I have been on 10 mg of lexapro before, which is a stronger version of citalopram, and I told her that I didn't know how effective it was in my anxiety because at the time I didn't have any anxiety, I was taking it for depression.

So now I don't know what to do. Do I wait another 4 weeks, and suffer the whole time, before making a doctor's appointment to try and get an increased dose or medication switch, or is there a better idea? Because I'm at my wits end here. Everyday is hell for me and nobody seems to care.

Answers:

I care!
If it was me I would first be proactive..okay be PUSHY! ..that's just for the immediacy of the situation..then if I was still not happy I would get a second opinion....or better yet find a new doctor that will listen to my concerns and will take the time to understand me and my symptoms before waving me off with a prescription.
