Low pulse (in the 40s)?!

Question:

Low pulse (in the 40s)?

Well, I've been laying down for a while, so I imagine this is as low as it goes, but...

Does it mean anything to have a pulse of say, 47? I'm not at all in shape; I've been sick for quite a while and in bed mostly. And it's off a monitor (BP 105/65, btw, if that helps) - so I'm pretty sure it's accurate.

I'm seeing doctors and all that but having trouble with a diagnosis. Does this mean anything?

Oh, and sometimes it spikes too. I feel totally fine but it'll be at 130 or something like that, no reason. I'd realllly like to figure out something so I could get better, and I'm grasping at straws - anybody have experience with this? I appreciate it.

Answers:

Most conditioned athletes can get a pulse rate in the 40s to 60s, but, seeing, as you said, you are not in shape at all, this is not good. I would go see a doctor about this, as soon as possible. Some more information at the site below.
