Swelling and redness after a mosquito bite?!

Question:

Swelling and redness after a mosquito bite?

Why is it that we get swelling and redness around the area after a mosquito bite? Why is it that sometimes the area of red/swelling is bigger sometimes and just a dot other times? Also, why does it itch so bad?

Answers:

My Dr. told me that the itchy spot is an allergic reaction to mosquito saliva. He said there are different "breeds" of mosquitos and they each have a slightly different chemical makeup to their saliva, so some cause more (or less) reaction in different people.
