Common procedures in a Physical Exam?!

Question:

Common procedures in a Physical Exam?

I am 21 years old, and have never had a physical. I have this aversion to anything associated with hospitals, the pharmaceutical industry, suppressants, medications, etc. I suppose some might categorize me as conspiracy theorist but quite frankly, i have done my homework!

Sometimes I get bad headaches, in the same spot, left back of head...ive known people who have lost their children and friends to some sudden cancer they had, that seemed like it was out of nowhere, until people in retrospect "remember him complaining of headaches often".

I suppose I need a physical done, but i am extremely reluctant and scared. If I tell them my headache problem, would they throw in a cat scan or something? What happens in a physical?? How much blood will they take? I am seriously plagued with a paralyzing fear of it all.. :o(

Answers:

They will ask for a family history.
You will have a nurse take your blood pressure, temp, and prick you finger for blood.
The doctor will come in and check your heart beat, ask you to cough, check your reflexes.
If you are going to get a gyn exam there is more involved such as taking a pap smear.
You can just go to the outpatient clinic for you headaches and they will refer to you another doctor if necessary.
A cat scan is nothing to be worried about. If you have to have one done just ask another question and we will give you a step by step description as to how they are done.
