By that, I mean that there is not one single thing you can do to control your stress, but that a combination of things have the best results. There are several things I do to control my stress at different times.
First of all, I have made a written and mental gratitude list. Such a list puts me in a positive frame of mind for the hour and for the day and sets the tone for a stress free day. I also listen to music on Yahoo! Launchcast Plus. I answer questions on Yahoo! Answers with the goal of helping others by sharing my experience, strength, and hope. See, I control my stress through a combination of positive acts throughout the day.
But I'm not above taking medication if I need it. Yesterday, I was facing a severe thunderstorm warning alone in my trailer. That's a pretty scary proposition when you're in a trailer and you're a survivor of Hurricane Andrew. So I took a milligram of Ativan and focused on my breathing and that helped significantly. See, the key is this: distress is often the body's reaction to the minds thoughts. Controlling that stress is acheived through changing the way you feel by changing the way you think.
